June 14, 2024 – Intersectional Equity Maricopa, Inc. is proud to announce that our Stop School Bullying program has been awarded a generous grant by Arizona Humanities. This support will significantly bolster our efforts to combat school bullying and promote safer, more inclusive educational environments.
The Stop School Bullying program has dedicated its first year to collecting data through pilot surveys aimed at identifying the specific reasons children in different schools and grade levels experience bullying. With this new funding, the program will hire community college students majoring in social work and psychology. These students will help expand the data collection and utilize the findings to develop a comprehensive curriculum focused on bullying prevention and de-escalation.
The curriculum, informed by the gathered data, will be presented in workshop assemblies featuring panel discussions for students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Our goal is to raise awareness and provide effective solutions to reduce school bullying. The workshops will address both the large-scale societal impacts of school violence and the deeply personal effects of alienation, isolation, long-term trauma, and self-harm.
The workshops are scheduled to begin in November and December 2024, with exact dates and schedules to be announced soon.
